Board of Assessment Review ("B.A.R.") members are required to complete one training session at the beginning of their term.  Currently, this training is offered by the Onondaga County Finance Department.
The B.A.R. convenes on Grievance Day (the fourth Tuesday of May) each year to hear petitions from Town residents seeking a reduction in the assessed value of their property.  (The B.A.R. may elect to schedule additional days to hear the petitions in the event of a town-wide revaluation).
Following the hearings, the B.A.R. will deliberate each petition and render a decision.  These deliberations typically take place on the same day as the hearings or, dependent on the number of petitions, the B.A.R. may reconvene to deliberate and render decisions.
